He was sitting beside me at the table doing his bible study for the week. This particular men’s group has challenged him to read quite a bit, probably not his favorite activity but a challenge he has risen to well. Several books they’ve been through and this month it’s a small one about living generously.
Good topic, and certainly one the man agrees with in theory. He doesn’t like this book however, and argues out loud with it. Tonight, several chapters in he is up grabbing his bible. As he reads along, taking in each thing the author is explaining from scripture he keeps grabbing the bible to look up things saying “Is that what it actually says?”
“That’s out of context!” ”This is a stupid analogy and misses what the scripture is trying to say!” “I’m not seeing that in this passage!” The night is interesting as what could have been a simple reading of the chapter to prepare for study becomes several hours of diving into the bible himself, pondering meanings and applications.
I believe he has found the best kind of study, one that makes you think!
